Pomp and glory

Friday, 29th April, 2011. For those of us you have either no memory of 1981, or scarce memories, this was the most important Royal event we have ever seen. I was 9 years old when Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. I remember it happening, although I don’t recall the details. I can’t even remember Diana getting her future husband’s name wrong!!! (although hardly difficult when he had so many to remember). Today, Kate thankfully got the order of the names right.

The wedding of William and Kate was a grand event in true British tradition. Street parties, hundreds of thousands of people lining the streets and queuing up for days to get just a quick glance of the Royal couple, and say, “I was there!”

Perhaps people can put behind them negative thoughts, talk of economic crisis, of doom and gloom, and just be happy to have shared this great historical moment. Today would be a perfect moment for Brian May to play atop Buckingham Palace! Or for each of us to play a little Elgar at home, and feel happy to be a part of this grand day.
