At the Reinvent the Toilet Fair, some 28 designs were shown, and ideas included a loo that used microwave energy to turn excrement into electricity, and another that turned human waste into charcoal.

The argument behind the initiative is that traditional flush toilets waste tons of drinking water in the developing world, and are completely impractical in third world countries.

Let’s just hope that if the microwave idea works, that the design is different to the microwave oven, to avoid confusion!  Let’s also hope that the future loo does not have an operating system that shuts down to install new updates at the wrong moment, or that it detects a virus!
